Slip Disc & Sciatica

Step-by-step treatment for slip disc and sciatica — from physiotherapy and injections to endoscopic surgery.

Overview

About Slip Disc & Sciatica

A slip disc (disc herniation) happens when the soft inner part of a spinal disc pushes out and presses on a nerve. When it affects the sciatic nerve, it causes sciatica — pain that travels from the lower back down the leg.

Most patients improve without surgery. When they do not, minimally invasive or endoscopic surgery can remove the pressure on the nerve and give quick relief.

Frequently Asked Questions

Loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, or rapidly increasing leg weakness need emergency care immediately.

It can recur in some patients. Core exercises, good posture and healthy weight reduce the risk.
